How do you like your eggs???

Sunnyside up???

Well that is how Baby James likes them!
Today was my "due date" and no baby. I am really not that surprised. Most first babies are late right?
I went in to see my wonderful doc today and had an ultrasound to check out how he is doing. Turns out, everything looks good. Fluid is good, heart is good, I saw his mouth open and close and saw that his knee truly is under my ribs. The big surprise was that he is head down (good) but in the posterior position, aka sunnyside up (not good). This means that he is not in the best position to get down in my pelvis and slide down the birth canal. Babies ARE born posterior, but the labors tend to be longer and more painful. Often the baby will turn while he makes his way down... but not always.

WARNING: There may be TMI ahead.
Since his head is not down in my pelvis, he is not pushing on my cervix helping me to dilate. Right now I only have a "dimple" in my cervix. This can all change over night of course. I am going to try some exercises to get him to turn around and the fact that he hasn't descended into my pelvis works in my favor.
I had to schedule an induction for next Tues because he also seems to be a little on the big side (from what they can tell, but that could be off by a pound or two) and a big baby in a posterior position can create some problems. For those of you who know me well, you know I have planned a natural birth using hypnobabies. This all could put a little bit of a damper on that plan, which obviously makes me a little sad. But at the same time I know that the most important thing is that James gets here safe and sound no matter how he decides he needs to get here. I just pray that he turns and makes this a little easier on all of us.

Lori! I hope all goes well. Don't be too upset about a change in plans. I'm sure little James will get here safe and sound, whatever way he decides to come out! I hope that he cooperates though :)

Hi Lori,

My name is Cherri and I met you at the movies last week. I hopped over from Callie's blog. I just wanted you to know that my first boy came out sunny side up and was 8 lbs. 14 oz. Your body can totally do this. My doctor let me push for over 2 hours and I also had a fever (which makes them worry and so they talk about a c-section because of risk of infection). Whatever happens will be fine of course. I just wanted you to feel like its possible and know that you can do it!

side note: after my first came out this way (sunny side up), the others just came so easy and fast (also sunny side up). He just paved the way.

hey! found you pretty randomly, but i'm also a hypnobabies mom (3 times over). My best suggestion for turning that posterior baby is check out www.spinningbabies.com

my first was posterior, so for my second i did a lot of crawling around on hands and knees, especially during my birthing time. I gave birth to a 9lb 5oz baby my second time around. So have no fear about "big babies". have you checked out www.pregnancybirthandbabies.com ? Lots of good positive birth stories there to keep you going! all the best

Hi Lori,

Jonathan Jr. was also sunnyside up when I was in labor. I actually thought that the most relaxing part of my labor was when the nurses kept rolling me to this side and that. Eventually Jonathan got the point and came out just right. James will come out just fine. He'll be perfect and you'll do great! We'll be waiting for the word!

Hi Lori! Tristan was sunny side up and I had to push for 2 hours because he was stuck on my pelvic bone. Surprisingly he came out with a round head, (no cone), but his forehead was really really bruised from being stuck. James is going to do just fine! He's just being a little stubborn, little stinker! Good luck with everything. I can't wait to meet him!
