What is this fruit??? We were walking in my parents neighborhood and came across two trees bearing this fruit. I picked one (don't tell) because I wanted to take it home to try it. Now I am afraid it is some kind of forbidden fruit and it will poison me! Anyone know what this is???

Maurice wants to know how big it is... it looks like whatever it is is not ripe, it needs to be one complete color. But let us know what size it is.
it is the size of a large fuji apple.

I have heard of persimmons, but have never tried one. Once this one ripens, I will give it a try. FYI: I looked up the definition for the fruit and found this "A persimmon, known to the ancient Greeks as "the fruit of the gods""... that makes me want to try it even more!
