What's in a name?
I waited at the social security office this afternoon for 2 hours only to find out that in order to change my last name, Haws and I have to go back to the court and have our marriage license amended so that it shows Haws "new" last name, then go back to the SS Office and DMV. For those of you who don't know... Haws had his name legally changed to his step-fathers last name after we were married. He has always gone by that name, but his birth certificate has his biological fathers name, which is what we had to put on the marriage license. Anyway... now we have to jump through all these loops to get my name changed. Is it worth it? It seems like they are making it so hard for us. Why is this so difficult and time consuming. There should be a better way. I have always wanted to take my husbands name, but I am starting to think "forget it!". Any thoughts???

you better take his name you nerd! i love u and i know it sucks and is so much effort but wont you love it once you can actually have all your documents having haws name? you can be legally his! hahahaha
I was really surprised that name changing took any amount of effort. I thought it was a lot easier than it is, even when you don't have quite as many hurdles to jump. I still haven't taken care of mine (that is really because my drivers license picture is so darn good I haven't been willing to take a new one). It means a lot to you, so just keep working on it now, it will take just as much work later! For what it is worth, everyone calls me now by my married name and it hasn't caused any legal complications on any level.
I think I would have died if it was one more day longer of my last name being "PLAYER"! So lucky it went quickly, but for you, sorry about the annoying process, it will be worth it in the long run :) See ya soon!
Yes... I will persevere and eventually take Haws' name, even if it takes a year! I just got of the phone with the County Court and found out that in order for the marriage license to be amended and processed... it will take 10-12 months! I am just hoping no little ones are added to the family during that time. I don't know what problems that may add to the mix.
It'll all be worth in the end...but boy oh boy is it all such a pain!!! You are a trooper! And it was fun to talk to you the other day...even if it happened to be the dreadful day of trying to get your name changed.
wow that is a bunch of hurdles, but you will be glad you did it when it is done, then you dont have to be at the hospital delivering your first baby with two different last names on the birth certificate! Sorry it is so complicated, I did a mail in one.
